Today’s episode of the AEC Leadership Today podcast is another special solo episode, this time focusing on the four major “shifts” that have emerged from all of the change that I believe have fundamentally changed everything about how we must lead and develop our teams and organizations – should we want to grow and prosper in this new era.
The Four Major “Shifts” Changing Everything
I have been working on, speaking about, sharing, and testing in real time virtually all the elements to be contained in my upcoming new book on “Re-Designing Work” as part of my leadership and organizational development work for more than a year now.
As I’ve shared with so many, I can’t wait for the book to launch to be able to share the entire solution framework… so have decided to share key aspects and insights as part of the next several episodes of this podcast.
And today, we begin with the four major “shifts” that have emerged from all of the changes we’ve experienced – and continue to work through – that I believe have fundamentally changed the way we must lead and develop our teams and organizations if we want to sustainably grow and prosper in this new era – and do so making a real difference and not burning out – which is truly possible – should we choose to design for it.
“The first two ‘shifts’, the ‘redefinition of winning’ and the shift of ‘work from place to space’ are really societal shifts, and the second two – the ‘third way’ and the shift of ‘performance from manager to teams and team success’ are strategic and tactical shifts we must make in response as leaders and organizations.”
— Peter C. Atherton, P.E.
In this episode, we breakdown the four major “shifts” changing everything about leadership and team and organizational development:
- The redefinition of winning
- The shift of work from “place” to “space”
- The shift to what I call the “third way”
- The shift of performance from manager to teams and team success
Pete also begins to provide context for how leaders and leadership teams can begin to act differently to achieve greater success both now and moving forward with a perspective only he can provide as a former AEC principal and major firm owner.
“The more forward-thinking firms I know and work with have shifted – they’ve shifted away from the ‘superhero’ model of project success and towards a model of teams and team success… which I’ll be sharing more about as part of our upcoming episodes.”
— Peter C. Atherton, P.E.
There’s certainly more to dig into and share and, as Pete mentioned, he’ll continue to do so through this podcast and other upcoming blogs and events – each designed to highlight many of the new ideas and concepts contained in his upcoming book on “Re-Designing Work”.
